On April 15, 2026, at the 224th session of the UNESCO Executive Board held in Paris, France, the Mt. Siguniang Geopark was officially designated as a UNESCO Global Geopark after being approved by the General Conference. Thus, Mt. Siguniang now holds both the UNESCO World Heritage Site and UNESCO Global Geopark titles, marking a historic breakthrough in its brand development.

Mt. Siguniang is located in Xiaojin County, Aba Prefecture, situated in the transitional zone between the Qinghai-Tibet Plateau and the Sichuan Basin. It fully preserves the characteristic geological structures of the Songpan-Ganzi orogenic belt, rare plateau alpine mountains, and precious glacial landforms. It fully records the long geological history from the evolution of the ancient Tethyan Ocean to the uplift of the Qinghai-Tibet Plateau, possessing extremely high global scientific research and comparison value. This area is rich in species, boasting over two thousand species of higher plants and rare ancient seabuckthorn natural forests. It is home to a large number of rare wild animals such as Ailuropoda melanoleuca and Uncia uncia, making it a key biodiversity hotspot globally. The traditional pilgrimage to the mountain, Guozhuang songs and dances, and Tibetan folk customs coexist harmoniously, and the original Jiarong Tibetan culture has a long history. The beautiful natural landscapes and rich cultural heritage complement each other.

For a long time, with the meticulous guidance of competent departments at all levels, the dedicated efforts of scientific research experts, the strong support from all sectors of society, and the enthusiastic companionship of tourists from all directions, all colleagues have adhered to their original aspirations and persevered for a long time, jointly safeguarding this geological treasure and ecological paradise. We have always practiced the concept that clear waters and lush mountains are invaluable assets, strictly adhered to the principle of protection first, standardized the management and protection of geological relics, deeply cultivated geological science popularization and education, and coordinated ecological protection, cultural tourism development, and people's livelihood and welfare to advance together.

Winning the title of UNESCO Global Geopark is not only an honor but also a responsibility. In the future, Mt. Siguniang will continue to safeguard the world-class geological and natural heritage, deeply explore the geo-scientific value, enhance the brand of ecological culture and tourism, inherit the unique ethnic culture, and uphold higher standards in resource protection, scientific research, and cultural tourism services. We will protect the snow-capped mountains and green lands, empower green development, and sincerely invite friends from home and abroad to enjoy the magnificent scenery of the snowy mountains, explore the evolution of the earth, experience the Tibetan customs, and embark on a beautiful new journey of harmonious coexistence between man and nature.
